[OT] Happy Birthday, Delphi !

[OT] 13 years ago a new software development tool was launched by Borland; it was a IDE around the object pascal language named Delphi. I was an early adopter and beta tester:

That choice made it more difficult, for me, to find collaborators from my small company; even my customers were skeptical (why don't you just use M$ Visual Basic ?), but we were able to achieve wonderful results for those times (as a self installing database win 3.1 application with thousands of hotels records squeezed in a single 3.5" 1.44 MBytes floppy).

It's been an upwind course, but so exhilarating ... and it's still so !

BTW: [F22] last sunday I started mixing resin again; main hull aft beam bulkhead pair under way :-)

[fuori tema] 13 anni fa un nuovo strumento per lo sviluppo software fu lanciato dalla Borland; era un ambiente integrato di sviluppo attorno al linguaggio object pascal e si chiamava Delphi. Io sono stato tra i beta tester e l'ho adottato subito. Quella scelta ha reso più difficile, per me, trovare collaboratori per la mia piccola azienda; anche i miei clienti erano scettici (ma perchè non usi semplicemente M$ Visual Basic ?); in compenso siamo riusciti a realizzare bellissime cose che altrimenti sarebbero state impossibili da fare, come ad esempio un'applicazione per Windows 3.1 , autoinstallante, per consultare un database con i dati di migliaia di alberghi, il tutto in un singolo floppy alta densità da 1.44 MBytes !

E' stato un bell'andare controvento, ma così esaltante ... e lo è tuttora. Come si dice dalle mie parti: as avessom d'anghè, mo as divertessom.

Intanto che ci siamo, sull'F-22, domenica scorsa ho ricominciato a mescolare resina; le paratie posteriori dei bracci sono in costruzione :-)
